New and confused

Just joined recently and am confused about a few things. What are Slabfests and Slabtogethers? How do they differ? It appears there are contests in at least one of these events. What are the rules? How many fish do you weigh and do they need to be live to weigh in? Is there somewhere on this site that all of this is explained?

Slabfests are when the members get together and fish and weigh in 5 fish at the pre-determined time. The top 3 places get a trophy and there are usually some door prizes to give away followed by some good eating. Slabtogethers are when they just get together and fish and weigh in their 5 heaviest without the door prizes and food. I am not aware of any "rules" to speak of, it's just a good time of fishing and fellowship. I'm sure the Head Goobers of this forum will tell you anything that I may have missed...Come on out and join in!!!!

TNT did a good job with his explanation. We do not require that the fish be alive, as some do not have the livewells on boats to keep the catch alive.
We suggest that you sort out you fish before coming to the weigh-in scales. Know which is your heaviest fish and only bring five to weigh in.
