I was using both methods, I was limiting out at Tarpon for about a month and the last time I went only about ten so it was time to try new grounds. I have only been long lining for about a month and a half love both ways.

Every lake is different - some lakes you long line in fall to winter - same lake you
spider rig when weather is wild stage of many cold fronts - high pressure etc.

Just keep your records of date - bara pressure - depth and what you were doing
    and using.

Some lakes you can get carried away and use crank baits - now that is wild .......
never know what is going to hit it............bass - spec's - bow fin - chain pickerel

I was using crank baits on Tarpon and the only thing I caught was some big bluegills and a couple of bass no specks so I stop pulling them. Probably was using the wrong ones.

Nice fish ranger. You are doing something right. Have you tried Lake Louisa at all?
