Well, mom and dad's vacation to sunny Florida is fast drawing to a close so I took dad back up to Lake Tarpon! We launched from Anderson Park around 11:00 today. The lake was flat calm and the fish didn't start hitting until the clouds and wind rolled in. We trolled repeatedly from Pasture Fence Point to Piney Point. All the fish we caught were in 12 or more feet of water about 6 to 8 feet down.
The hot bite was on my dad's white hair jig (1/16) with some kind of Krystal Flash in it. He was trolling it about 30 feet behind the boat. Second hottest bait was a 1/8 road runner (white curly tail) with a 1/32 chaser jig using a panfish slider grub (yellow/brown). He trolled that about 40 feet back and all the fish took the panfish grub! I did ok dragging a 1/16 taser jig (chart/blue) with a 1/32 chaser jig using a Garland baby shad in Devils Grin (Mo Glow).
We tried various water depths from 8 feet to 16 feet, but all the fish were caught in 12 to 14 feet. Trolling speed was between 0.7 and 1.3 mph, depending on the wind at the time. We brought home a total of 12 (new record for me!) and the average size was 11 to 12 inches - better than all our previous trips this spring.
