Default February 15, 2014 slabfest at Lake Griffin State Park

I know it's early but we need to start planning the February 15th 2014 slabfest at Lake Griffin State Park. I'll be going to Leesburg tomorrow and reserving the pavilion. We need to start thinking about sponsors and donations for our drawing also. A few of us will be camping at the park Welcome to Florida State Parks and if anyone else is thinking about camping you probably need to make reservations now. "Speckanator"

What time does tournament start? How long does it last? What is the entry fee? What time does the park open? Can anybody fish this or do you have to be a member? Lots of questions but have never fished a tournament.

This is not a tournament in which boats are assigned start off times. We fish for BRAGGING RIGHTS. After the event the "official" weights will be posted here on this web site.

Park entrance fees are the responsibility of each entrant to the park.

The members will probably be gathering at the boat ramp shortly after the park opens. Some members will be camping at the park, others will be arriving as soon as the park opens for general admittance. Usually just a B.S. session, who is going where on the waters and renewing friendships with members which have not been seen in a week or two or maybe longer.

We expect to have everyone back at the dock and ready to weigh-in their catch. (heaviest 5 fish) by ONE PM.

We do not have an entry fee, as we do not have any money prizes. We do have a donation jar in which the funds collected help offset the expenses of the food and picnic items and the trophies, which are awarded for each event. We also have tickets for drawings for items which are donated by members and sponsors.
(Someone may want to have a fruit jar competition, in which participation is optional and not a requirement) Typically the fruit jar competition, is a predefined amount ($$) per boat and the boat which brings in the biggest, heaviest wins the money collected (100 percent payout).

Trophies to be awarded at each event for 1st place: Heaviest weight for 5 crappie fish.
Trophies to be awarded at each event for 2nd place Heaviest weight for 5 crappie fish
Trophies to be awarded at each event for 3nd place Heaviest weight for 5 crappie fish
Trophies to be awarded at each event for Heaviest weight for 1 crappie fish
Donations accepted and door prizes @ October and February Slabfests
    Points race= 5 best events

    Welcome to Florida State Parks

We welcome all new comers to join with us at any of our events and hope to have them become a part of our group.

I should be there plus give away stuff (prolly do the usual free t-shirt thread thing) and maybe in-laws too! Sorry for being so vague but I don't plan well enough ahead to be very specific!

Speckanator +1 cooker and the boxes

    crappy pappy

Hope we have a good turn out....start thinking about raffle donations and possible sponsors that might donate something. Monroe, and this one are the only time we ask for donations. The money will be used for the April Classic and to start things off at the 2014 October Slabfest. If you have something you want to donate let me know and we'll post it. Entry to the park is $5.00 per car/truck. They have plenty of parking and a dual ramp for launching. The picnic facilities are great for a large gathering with tables and restrooms. The gate opens at 8 AM but the folks at the State Park have agreed for me to open the gate anytime I want and collect the fees along with keeping a list etc. Shu will be the head fry cook at this event and we will be serving BEER BATTERED fish along with all the trimmings. If you have a special dish you would like to bring or a dessert that would be greatly appreciated. Cokes/Pepsi, water, and tea (sweet and unsweet) will be available also. If anyone has any suggestions or would like to add something feel free to jump in.

    Mike
