Default Crescent Report: There’s hope for the bobber watchers

I’ve never been to Crescent before but with the recent trolling reports I couldn’t resist. I’d much rather sling a jig at specs than troll: I like to feel the thump when a big spec eats. So we put in at about 11AM Tuesday morning after the rain and trolled. After about an hour we caught six using red, green, and yellow jigs tipped with minnows. But all I could think about was jigging the pads or some laydowns. So I convinced my shipmate to hit the banks. We looked around a little and found a deep bank that looked promising. We came to a spot where I caught good fish on three consecutive casts so we backed off and anchored and fished with minnows under a bobber. I was a little surprised to find the fish ganged up but we ended up with 26 with three over two pounds (the biggest was 2 lbs 8 oz) from that spot. We finished with 38 with most of the fish weighing between one and two pounds.

Thanks to Hobo for some very good recommendations.

Nice work Blueganoo! I too prefer the thump...nothing like it.

We caught just a few in the pads. We found the big school in 5’ of water about twenty feet off the bank in some brush. Some of them were right next to the bank in less than a foot of water.
