Thread: Only In Florida

Went out this morning to try for a few specks & was in deeper water trolling toward the shore to find what depth the fish were holding. I came up on 6ft & my longest line out started bumping bottom then, wham a train on the other end, thought it was a moving log til' 4 of my 8 poles out became entangled at which point I just wanted to see what was on & behold a ray! Have caught one before cat fishing, but never tolling & this fella came armored with not just 1, but 2 barbs, as you can see in one of the photos, guess you just never know when fishin' Florida waters. Did manage a few specks as well, the 2 best a 13" & 12" released in 83 F temp at noon with the morning surface temp 81F.

The color on those specks is awesome....I'm glad somebody is out and about!! Last fall I caught two 15" lady fish in Monroe.

That sure beats all the flounder and gar I catch when I'm trolling for specks! The one's you caught look good for July.All this rain will probably kill the shrimping up this way but it will sure turn on the fishing.

Yep!! The Wekiva river is full of them. Especially the area where Katies was.

I figured there was a story behind your 1st comment, hope nothing serious came of "Katies" encounter , although I would think rays make for easy target practice when learning to bow-fish And yes CG1, it was a fresh water lake along the St. John's river that I like to call a brine solution, the semi-salty waters pre-season's the specks you know
