If you're willing to venture off of lake talquin just a few miles the apalachicola river is in your back yard. I don't know if you're familiar with flatheads, but that river has plenty of them and they're highly addictive. Even the ocholocknee river is loaded with them. I know of cats over 40lbs that have came out of that little river. They're not in South Florida....yet so i'm not sure if you are familiar with them or not.

thanks for the tip. i am more than willing to venture off of talquin a bit. i know flatheads go for live bait more than the other cats. love catfish. fight so well. i am also interested in the choctawhatchee river, dead lake, merritt's mill pond, and the ochlockonee below talquin. nice fish in your pics. i always carry catfish/bait in my boat to switch to them when crappie/bass not biting. they have saved numerous trips for me. Jim.

If you can, make sure you attend the April 13th. You will meet a lot of good fishermen. Welcome to Talquin.

Most arrive between 6 and 7 fish, weigh in, and eat. Check thread on April slabfest at top for exact times and details.
