I'm makin a move down south
Well I'm planning on moving to the Ormand Beach area. The wife has a brother their who doesn't fish, so I don't know how well the fishing is. I'm living in South Dakota now. We have a bunch of glacier lakes here with great fishing, but I don't know whats waiting for me in florida. I was hoping you guys (and gals) could help me out with that. I just was wondering if there is good fishing not more than an hour away from their? I won't do salt water fishing for a while so just fresh water shore fishing, since i don't have a boat. Thanks

Welcome to Florida! Plan on meeting us at the October 13th Slabfest on Lake Monroe. That's about 45 minutes from Ormond. Your not that far from the St. Johns river also. Some fine fishing there.

Well, to be honest with ya. The bank fishing will be far more productive in the saltwater. Not sayin ya cant fish the banks in freshwater but there is far more opportubity in saltwater with all the piers jetties and beaches. But as Mike said come to the slabfests and surely someone can fit ya in. We got another feller from yer neck of the woods due back shortly(Snowdak). Fact I believe he is in one of the Dakotas now.

Your right Mike. I am still in North Dakota, but if I can get the house done this weekend I plan on heading home next week.
Bluegill buddy where in South Dakota are you from? I just moved to the Deltona area last fall and found the Crappie fishing great.
Send me a PM. Deltona is not far from were you plan on moving to.

Thanks for the info guys. I wont be moving down their until September or october of 2013 so I'll miss out on slabfest this year speckanator, but will make it next year. It was a great weekend for fishin up north. Caught 2 dozen perch over 2 days of fishing. Caught them right of the dock in 6 fow with just a hook, worms, and bobber just 6" off the bottom. Great eatin!! Can't wait for the water to cool off a bit and have the walleye come in to sallow water.

Quick question? Where is lake monroe located, were going to be in Fl. on that date. Also is there any good crappie fishing in the Tampa, St. Pete area? Wanting to bring the boat.

Lake Monroe is on the St. John's river at I-4 just east of Orlando about 15 miles. Be about a 1.5 hr drive depending on where in Tampa you will be, but very easy to get to and find. Not sure about the lakes over there but there is some stellar saltwater fishing in Tampa/St. Pete. Come on over for the Slabfest, guaranteed good time for all. Here is a link to the park we launch from and feast at, http://volusia.org/parks/LkMonroe.htm
