    Default Saturday's alright for fighting

Longnose gar that is, I geuss Pontiac started a trend, hooked into this guy bout 9:30 this morning & gave a 20 minute fight on 8 lbs. test. Have no official #'s but he pegged my 15 lb. scale & broke the handle to boot. Lake Harney is loaded with gar this summer, had hits all morning & landed 3 other smaller ones. I suppose that's why I only picked up 6 specks , all fish to fight another day. They use to only "the gar" hit minnows on hook alone or jigs tipped with minnow, but these today were all on spinners tipped with minnow. As reference to his thickness the trolling motor base is
    8 1/2 " wide.

Them 'FreshWater Billfish' can really put up a fight! I once had about a 20# hooked in the tail with a rattletrap, and even landed it!
No ill will for garfish from me!

Gar balls, crab cakes, cinch fritters all made with the same basic idea.

No, I wouldn't know the 1st thing about cleaning one, not that adventureness, have heard fish with these types of bone structure are best smoked, I'll leave em' to take there place in the food chain.

Those gar can be a real handful especially on light crappie tackle. Congrats on landing that one. Looks like a big one compared to the tm bracket.
