    Default Very Special Fishing Trip

I was up at 4:30 this morning getting everything ready and pulled out the driveway just after 5 headed to pick up my dad for a day of fishing. What made this a special trip was, my dad is 87 years young and legally blind. He walks with a cane and is somewhat unstable and I knew the boat thing was going to be a challenge. He stopped fishing several years ago because of his sight, but I knew he missed it. It seems every time I talked with him the subject of fishing always came up.

Just before jumping on the Interstate I stopped at McDonalds for his black coffee and hash browns and drove to his place where he was waiting for me outside on a bench. As he was sipping his coffee and eating his hash browns as we headed to our fishing spot another 30 minutes away. I got the boat in the water and tied it up tight to the dock and dad surprisingly stepped right in while I held his arms for balance. A few minutes later we were headed for the middle of the lake.

The water was like glass and zero wind. I felt this was going to a good day. Within the first 20 minutes my dad had missed three and I had missed one (didn’t get to them fast enough) and then I lost a monster (tried to land him without a net). After that, the wind picked up enough to put a good ripple on the water and for next one and a half hours nada! Not even a hit. So we called it and headed in.

The fact that we didn’t bring home any doesn’t mean diddaly squat. We were FISHING and that’s all that mattered.

    Mike:
Glad that you had a GOOD day with your DAD. It was a good fathers day doing something that you both enjoy doing.
Sorry that I was not able to join you today, as I had a matter to attend to at 7:15 AM, that was on the calendar for several weeks.
    Maybe another day.

Back in the spring got to take my dad on a trip, first time he'd fished in 25 years, he's 73,it was one of the most memorable days of my fishing career, and a day I will cherish forever, dad caught the biggest crappie he'd ever seen! And here's a few photos!Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339798831.667257.jpg

Good post of a few good trips. Dad and I didn't fish together much, but he took me enough times when I was young and planted the seed that grows still. Glad y'all had good times and better memories.
