Thread: longlineing on lake okeechobee

I have never even seen it in person. Someday I will go there and fish, so I am watchin this one with interest.

I can tell you a quick,cheap, easy way to figure out if it is worth getting rigged up for it. Pick up some road runners a few grubs and two 6'-6" to 7'-0" rods which you probably already have. Head out to areas where the fish usually spawn. Toss the jigs about 20-30ft behind the boat hold a rod in each hand. I don't have a varible speed trolling motor so i set mine on 3 and will weave from side to side while moving down the line i want to troll. The side to side motion is very important as it will cause the jigs to speed up and slow down depending on the side of the boat the jig is on and which way you point the boat. The jigs will only run about 6-8ft deep but you can add a split to get them a little deeper. This is a great method for locating fish and has caught fish from every lake i've tried it in. I've also had some success pulling crankbaits like this.

YEP, just not sure about the water there. Take Lake Panasofkee, be almost impossible to troll that lake with all the weeds in it. That is what I was gettin at.

Yep...Panasofkee is terrible with weedsbanghead...Aint no way I'd ever try to pull that lake...But we have caught some mighty fine shellcrackers there.
