Nice catch
What a perfect morning, the scent of orange blossom in the air , NO WIND, & the first 2 fish on were 13". I know, where were they last week, the answer, lake Monroe evidently. All in 5 to 6 fow using mostly dark with chartruese tails. (sory speck detector...I didn't know how to start the postRofl) Fished from 7:30 until 9AM caught 18 and kept seven 12"+ only to give them away later. Then the fun began....I packed up ole' specktacular and headed for the blue gill hole with 100 crickets. They were waiting for me!! :yikescaught at least 20 or 30 mostly this years young brooders and a couple moby gills along the banks. The water temp was 77 and you know what happens when it it hits 78. I'd say in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks they will be settling in and the BIG ones will be ready to straighten some hooks.
Woo hoo I know where I will be Saturday!!!!!!!
Ye-olde cracker, that's good stuff right thererotfl, thus the speck season winding/slowing ect. down, not over. Those shelly's take a back seat to no other pan fish, believe the state record is well over a pound more than the speck record. That's why it's time for my boy & I to take our annual camping trip, before the nites get to hot. Usaually, hit Talquin for a long weekend, but the weather doesn't look good from mid-state north, so were goin try lake kissimmee this year. The only draw back, the next new moon isn't til april 6th, where goin fish specks & shell crackers anyways. Hope your Blackshere trip go's well, can't miss with that fancy resort, keeps the better half happy, you slick dog ;).
Mike, they're near the river just inside the point under a low hanging bobber catcher as usual. The bad news is the boat traffic will rock your %&$ off everytime one goes by. You might try some grass shrimp or maybe take out a 2nd on the house to buy some crickets. Good luck!
