Can anybody give me some information on Lake George? Coming down in Mid Jan and hope to do some crappie fishing. Will be staying at Bass World Lodge.

Hey Ranger
We always got em on the left just after you get into the big lake, hang a left after about 1/2 mile you'll see some pilings. ( "L' Pilings the locals call em)
100 yds off of the shore. They'll hit minnows but prefer grass shrimp. It's only about 6' deep but the average depth is only 10' anyway. Also had luck drifting in deeper water 7'-10 in front of Salt run and in Muddy cove. You'll drift in and out of schools all day long. We have come back with coolers of cleaned fish to share.
My best memories of fishing are from Lake George...

Sure they do, Lake George is part of the 2nd largest body of fresh water in the USA. The St Johns river is 320 miles long with 8,840 square miles of water. Lake George is just a little mud puddle in the middle at 6 miles wide. Ive cought more and bigger fish there than in my Beloved Talquin. Most young Crappie feeed on insects and larve until until about 1/3 of a pound. Florida juviniles feed on high protein grass shrimp at a very early age and gives them a growth advantage on all crappie from South Georgia north. The shrimp in the photo are full grown grass shrimp. Its hard to find them this big, the average ones are smaller. Like the ones that are on his fingers.

Thanks for the PM. Sorry for not being more descrete with the hot spots, but I dont know how to send a pic inside of a PM?? A picture is worth 1000 words. There are some old pilings on the south east side of Drayton that use to be awesome if you can find em they are 1ft under water now in 12 ft of water. about the middle of the island. The bombing range will be marked by 4-6 large wooden bouys 10' in the air, it is one of the deeper places in the lake. Sunken Tarket ship and lots of other structure. Good fish magnet. Dont get cought out there on a windy day it gets uglyquick. Hey if you dont find em in one spot then go to the other. You'll do fine I'm sure.. I always do..... Since you live North of Atlanta Ga. You might not understand this kind of Southern Hospitality. Sometimes I dont know why we do it either.. Oh well? Here's your Southern Welcome Mat. Enjoy your stay in Florida. Share your catch with an unlucky angler and you'll make friends fast. ....PWW... Bass world is about 1 mile north of this map. Remember.. its Deer season for gators so be carefull.

Thanks for a nice informative article PWW. Just learning this crappie business and didn't quite know what to do with these grass shrimp. Also, next time I see a see a doe deer swimming with her head lolling back, I won't be so eagar for a closer look.

The first time that I fished them it looked rediculas. A relitively huge #8 bream hook with two tiny grass shrimp threaded on the hook. I couldnt beleave the fish could even see it... We didnt have any luck with minnows But, came back with grass shrimp and WOW for the next hour it was one fish after another. We laughed about how hard they would hit it and quick too. I wont fish George without them... It was at the "L" pilings the first time I used Grass shrimp, a long time ago.
