I fish from a kayak,mixing it up a bit,I often longline,then anchor off in a good spot for some drop shot fishing.Not long ago,I was anchored a couple feet from shore,over a steep drop off.I was sitting with my back toward some very thick brush on the bank when suddenly something leaped into my kayak from behind me,landing near my feet.
It's worth noting,I hardly ever,if ever get startled,but this is one time,I may have rocked the kayak a bit.There at my feet stood a small dog,tail,wagging,begging for attention.After the initial shock,I obliged the little fellow,he stuck with me for about 10 min,then leaped back out of my kayak,and disappeared into the brush from whence he came.
Not seeing a soul,I figured this tale would be better left untold,I pulled anchor and sailed off for some more Longlining.Several hrs later,while heading back to the landing,I spotted the little hitchhiker standing on the bank beside an old fellow fishing.
I motored over near him,and ask if that was his pooch,he said it was.I told him about it jumping into my kayak,and how it made my day,he told me Everytime he brings the dog fishing,it hitches rides with any boat that come close enough for him to jump in..........I liked that little dog!
