Can't beat em? Follow em!
I was trolling for trout on a 10 acre lake yesterday. One end of the lake holds the deepest water, probably a 3 acre section, that's where me in my kayak, and 3 other boats were concentrating our efforts.
Everything was working well, everyone managed to elude each other while maintaining a consistent trolling speed. To good to be true for long,an old gentleman in a small johnboat joined in the circle of the well timed troll.
This old guy never acknowledged anyone,he zigged and he zagged,he cut into line, and caused more tangles than a bad hairdo. He would cross directly in front of boats, causing them to stop to allow him passage. Most trollers had about 30 ft of line out, trying to keep their light spinners near the surface due to muddy water conditions.
After a couple hours of this, nobody caught a fish, all the boats left but me in my yak ,and grumpy old man.Did he stop cutting me off at the pass ? Heck no,he just narrowed his circle, continuing his rudeness. It took a bit of maneuvering, but I finally got just far enough behind him to not have my bow in his stern. That put his lures just feet past my stern, but beneath my motor prop.
Try as he might,I stuck to him like stink on manure, not only did this aggravate grumpy, but I began catching fish.after several tries to shake me,grumpy broke off,and headed for the boat ramp,I wish he had stayed,I never caught another fish after he left
