I was fishing on a little private lake here at ACA Camp Geneva in Fruitland Park FL. I was using a fly rod with a small wet fly early one morning this spring. The bluegill were hitting like crazy and I was having a great time catching them. I got a hard strike and was reeling in another bluegill, when all of a sudden my line got extremely heavy. I thought the fish had gotten tangeled in the weeds under the water. As I worked it closer to shore I realized that there was a bass on the line. When I finally landed it to my surprise the bluegill was stuck in the bass' mouth with the fly still hooked to the bluegill. It appeared that when the bass struck at the bluegill I was reeling in the fins of the bluegill hooked the bass.
Thats awesome.
not many things better than a "2'fer".![]()
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

That's one of the coolest catches I've ever seen. I lived Central Florida for 30+ yrs and loved fly fishing the cheap popper bugs in whatever water I could get to. At first, I used junk equipment with a level line but moved up a little as the years past. Nothing better than a 6lb LMB on that setup. Keeps you coming back.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
nice story
In humble reverance to the GREAT I AM! THAT I AM!
I did that once. When I tell the story, people accuse me of telling fish stories and most don't believe me. My dad was in the boat with me, so I did have a witness. I was using crickets under a cork, but other than that, it happened the same way. Good for you. That's one you'll always remember. GTT
WOW great read. nice pics.
