    Red face Lures Seeking Lures

I recently picked up fishing a week or two ago, and I've already been out at least 8 times (obsessed). Well since I am not very good at fishing and because I believe fishing lures were designed to send them on vacation at the bottom of the lake, I have already lost about 5 lures. That means I'm doing good right?

Here's the thing. I don't like to lose lures. They are darn expensive. So I don't take no for an answer. I climb trees, build stick poles, and I'm not against diving in and searching for them like buried treasure (well not really). However, I really like to use them because they require no setup (and I've been catching with them).

So today I was on the lake and I decided to cast my Mini Fat Rap lure 5 times. I wouldn't do more than 5. Cast #1 caught a small sunfish, but it didn't deter me from sticking to 5. Then, on the 5th cast, of course, It got stuck on the bottom, and the line didn't even break, the knot fell apart (beginner remember). So this wasn't even on the stupid lure. This was on the stupid fisherman.

It was about 5 feet from shore in the weeds and sunk only about a foot deep, but I didn't know which weed it hit and the whole bottom is leaves and I couldn't find it. I waded in the water but after 3 steps in visibility reaches 0 and the entire area fills with mud. For the next 2 hours, every 15 or so minutes when the water cleared up, I went back out in the mud and poked and prodded with a stick, reached blindly into the water grabbing, and pulled up a weed or two to no prevail.

I was furious. Mad at myself. Mad at lures. Mad at weeds. Mad at everything. I was so mad that when some kids ran by I wanted to trip them. I didn't, but I was mad.

So right before I left, after packing up, I decided that I was GETTING THAT LURE no matter what it took. I grabbed my poking stick and went into the sinking mud. I was thinking about laying down on my stomach and doing a reverse snow angel hoping the lure penetrated somewhere on my body and I retrieved it. I didn't care if it cut a main artery, I was getting back my $5 lure.

Then, before drastic measures were taken, My poking stick knocked up a shimmering light. It was the lure! I reached in and grabbed it, and ripped out what it was stuck on...

The previous lure I lost about 5 days ago...

So in the end I left the lake happy. I had my lost lure and salvaged a now sort of dirty and rusty looking lure. What a day!

Oh by the way, I spend about 10 minutes fishing and 4 hours tying lines, unsnagging things, and cutting holes in my clothes to get hooks out. I think I'm doing it wrong...

Hang in there. There is no known cure what the bug that has bitten you. I suggest you don't worry about the cost just continue to treat the problem you now have. Now that was funny. I don't care who you are.
