I hopped over here from the Florida forum, to make a comment when i saw the title. This area of the Illinois River is where i was born and raised. It served a lot of commercial fishermen with carp, catfish, etc. a great bass fishing area as well.i, myself fished it for years and boated it. What has happened with the Asian carp has been a disaster. To eat them would be great, except there are so many millions of them now, that it would never solve the problem. To commercial fish them out and do a large fish kill and restock is the only solution to getting rid of them.You can not even SAFELY boat on the river now with your familys for fear of a flying fish hitting one of your children .Quote:

Asian Carp optimum spawning temperature is 26c. Lake Michigan never gets over 25c. They could survive int eh Great Lakes, but they couldn't spawn there.

Spawning temperature is generally between 18 ºC and 30 ºC, with an optimum of 22-28 ºC. The eggs of silver carp, like all Chinese carps, are non-adhesive. After spawning, the eggs begin to absorb water through the egg membrane and swell until its specific gravity is slightly greater than that of water, so they can stay at the bottom (in the case of static waters) or float halfway in mid-water (in flowing waters) until the fry hatch. So with even warmer temps at shorelines, inlet rivers & harbors they will do some spawning.
I hate them fish if you have ever been hit by a 15 pounder in the head and almost being knocked out at night out trying to run trotlines like I have a Morgan Point you'd hate them too. I say get rid of all of them.
Some got into bee lake last year when the delta flood started, they released some gars to try to get rid of them. I think more will be needed to stop them
I don't want them in georgia. but i really want to shoot a boat load full with my bowfishing bow, aerial style. or with a baseball bat it would be like hitting mailbox in a car but legal. I guess they don't care how you get rid of them.
We use them for catfishing on the MIssouri River some. I always thought why don't they use them in making canned cat food. Been smacked several times by them. Hate them things. They make a mess when they land in your boat.
