    Default Awesome Carp Recipe...

Had a bad day of fishing last summer because it was so hot....water was almost boiling. Only thing I could get to bite was carp, so I went with it just to get some action. We took one of the carp back to camp with us and decided we were going to have a good ol' campfire meal.

We took the carp and tied it to a 2x4. Left the scales on so they would burn on the outside and keep the inside nice and juicy, almost like a sear. Threw it in the campfire for about 30 minutes.

Then we pulled it off the fire and ate the 2x4....

They used to have carp rodeos in michigan. Lots of ppl caught lots of them and took them to weigh ins for prizes. Nothing was released, they did it to remove them from overpopulated lakes. They were gigged, snagged, hooked however ya wanted to catch them. There was a small restaurant chain that showed up every year and bought all that were weighed in and shipped them to their restaurants. I think they smoked them. I don't remember the name of the chain, it's been too many years ago. I know that some of the locals around Union City used to have their own smokers that they made out of old refridgerators, I had some of the carp meat that they smoked and it was delicious. It was sorta like fish jerky.

Here in Michigan Kent Lake is loaded with monster carp. I used to fish for them every spring to use as garden fertilizer but also ate quite a few along the way. I fillet them and fry ‘em up. They are also very good smoked if you can spare the time. I only use the white meat and toss the red meat in the garden along with the bones, skin and guts. Although I heard the red meat on smaller carp is good too I have not tried it yet. I gave a co-worker a few fillets and to this day he thinks it was walleye *lol*. It is a very mild and tasty fish and you should try it at least once. You will get “hooked”.
Carp canbe difficult to clean. Check out YouTube using key search words like Cleaning Carp or Filleting Carp. You may have to watch a few videos before you find one that works for you.
