I believe my first fish was probably a bluegill caught at my fathers drinking buddy's trailer park rentention pond, "Lake of the Lanterns" yup yup thats where I honed most of my angling skills. How sad is that. my old man never let fishing get in the way of his drinking. LOL

I was 6 or 7 years old and had been fishing with my dad in a small brook behind my grams house in upstate NY. Rained all day and we hadn't caught any fish. It was time for my dad to head back home , as i was staying at grams for the summer and i decided to try it one more time... I crossed the brook above a small waterfall on an old board we had snagged from the barn , baited my hook with a juicy white garden worm and cast away. I went to reel up and my line felt like it was snagged on a rock so i put pressure on it to try to get it loose - The lazy fish rolled a bit of it's back out of the water and my eyes got big ! I yelled to my brother to bring the bucket across as i swung the fish up onto the rocks. Filled with excitement to show my prize to dad we ran back to the house only to see dad making the corner out of the long driveway. Gram measured the fish , it was a 17.5 inch speckled brook trout and we had it for supper that night. I still drive back to NY about once a year to do some native speckled trout fishing with my brother , but have never caught one even close to the size of that beauty.

About 8 years old, I went fishing with my cousin GJ and caught a pickerel out of the Charles River! Wow - It looked prehistoric to me! Been "hooked" ever since! God Bless, Alec

The first fish I remember catching was a red drum at the La Quinta Pier in Corpus Christi. I was 8 years old and fishing through a knot hole in a deck board. My brother had to climb over the edge of the pier to get it.

My dad built his first catfish pond when I was 5 years old so I reckon the first fish I caught was a catfish. I don't recall the actual first fish. I do know that at one time we were feeding 450lbs of feed per day in that one 3 acre pond. The fish were so thick you could almost walk on them when feeding. Since then, the hobby grew and we now have around 20 ponds to play with when I go home to South Alabama - filled with catfish, bass, crappie, and assorted bream. I hope to do some crappie fishing in late Feb. Over the past two years there have been some crappie over 3 lbs caught during the spawn. I'm usually down in the summer and the crappie are hard to catch because of the heat and relatively shallow water.

The first fish that I caught was when I was 5 or 6. My family and I were visiting my aunt and uncle in South Dakota. We were fishing for carp and big black bullhead in Lake Albert, which was practically in their back yard. I remember a picture of me standing up by their farm house with a stringer of huge bullheads. You only had to throw out your heavy 20 pound or more line with heavy weights and two hooks and more times than not you would get a bite right away and there would be a fish on both hooks. We used worms that we would find from underneath the straw and manure behind the barn. I remember one picture of me holding my broken rod with 2 large bullhead on it. Brings back fond memories.
It wasn't crappie, but it sure was fun! :D
