The Fishing Trip
This is a true story. I ran a shop at Keesler AFB in Biloxi Ms on the Mississippi gulf coast and most of the guys in the shop loved to fish. This included off shore, inshore, and freshwater. Most of us fished every chance we got and that was the main topic of conversation around the shop.
A new guy was assigned to the shop. He was from the northeast and never really fished. With all the talk around the shop, he finally figured that he had to take advantage of all the fishing around the coast. He took his wife and young six year old daughter for her first fishing trip on a pier in the back bay of Biloxi.
After about 15 minutes his daughter got a bite. They were all excited as she reeled in her first fish and pulled it up on the dock. It was a small hardhead catfish, which is a saltwater catfish with sharp spines. It was flopping all over the dock none too happy with its' predicament. My friend, wearing tennis shoes thought he'd step on the catfish to stop it from flopping. Well, you can guess what happened, the spine of the catfish pierced his tennis shoe and stuck him in the bottom of the foot. He started yelling and kicking his foot around trying to get the fish off and suddenly the fish flipped off -- and stuck him right in the ass. He started screaming and his wife asked what was wrong. He yelled "He's biting me and I can't get him off!!" She said Pull your shorts off to which he replied. "I can't, I'm not wearing any underwear!!"
Finally, his wife got the fish off and they decided they better go to the hospital. When they got into a room and the doctor came in, he asked what happened and my friend told him. The doctor said he would be right back and left the room. A short time later, he heard the nurses and staff laughing and giggling in the hallway. The giggling would reoccur every few minutes as the story was spread from one person to the next. We all wished we could have seen the medical report and were sure it would say...bit in the butt by a catfish.
To top matters off they finally got out of the hospital and were driving home. Then his daughter spoke up from the back seat -- "Daddy, I really had fun on our fishing trip."
We heard the story the next day from his wife and she brought in the pair of shorts with a circle around the hole to prove it. He knew he was ratted out when he went by the bulletin board and saw his shorts hanging there. They stayed there about a week.
Thanks dad for teaching me to love crappie fishing!!
