Default Minnkota Maxxum issue

Anybody have any issues with the maxxum not wanting to go whne the foot switch is depressed at low speeds? Mine is just a little over 3 years old and has started doing this. Won't go in eith Mon or Cont when it happens. I can usually turn up the wick and fiddle with it a little and get it to go for a while but it will do it again. I can hear the switch "click" when depressed but nothing happens. Any thoughts???

Sounds like a speed controller issue. Might take a look at the pedal and see if there's any cleaning you can do to anything you can get to. Past that, I suspect the board might be going bad if you're dead sure it's not loosing power connection.

I've had my Maxxum for a long time and mine has never actually turned the prop at below 18 on the variable speed dial.

The prop is just barely creeping at 18 and increases normally and fluidly from 18 - 100 on the dial.

It's as if the "real Zero" starts at 18 and MinnKota (maybe) oriented the % markings on the variable speed dial wrong.

I just don't pay any attention to the % markings......

I have the same problem with my foot control which is not a maxxum. When using it in "constant" run mode, at speed 2 or lower, I have to keep pressure to the right side of the constant run switch to keep it going. It's just easier to use the regular switch. Another thing is when turning the head to a different direction, causes "dead spots" where power is lost and the constant switch turns off. And a third thing is the Auto Pilot. It will be working fine, then wigs out and starts going in a 360% all by itself.

I never had the trouble with the original foot control that came with the motor. It flew out on an expressway and became road pizza fodder.

This is the third foot control I've purchased of it. The one I am currently having trouble with was bought new in February.

I am beginning to believe that Minn Kota my have some engineering issues.

Took it to the shop and the issue is in the pressure switch for engaging the mom. function. Seems you can force the switch too far down and won't get a good contact. had to pop the cover off and push it up from underneath. Biggest issue I have with it is if it completely fails you have to buy a whole new cicuit board. It acted up once after I brought it home but I did what the tech suggested and (knock on wood) its been working all weekend.

That clicking sound is what mine was doing. I took it to Qualls in Salem, IL for Larry Quall to look at. He is a really nice guy and helped me out a lot. My problem was that it had gotten a lot of fishing line on the shaft and the motor had gotten water in it. I have not yet had a chance to try it out after he has fixed it though, so we will see. I hope there are no other problems, i need to start fishing more!
