So What Are We Supposed To Do Not Fish In The Rain With A Lowrance Unit? Heck You Boys Have Now Got Me Scared To Death! I Just Put 2 New Units On My Boat Less Than 30 Days Ago. Granted They Are Not The Top Of The Ling Models But I Did Spend Alot Of Money For Me On Them! What Am I Supposed To Do Cover The Darned Things With Plastic Bags If It Starts Raining? Some Of My Best Fishing Days Are In The Rain. I Did Notice In The Manuals That It Said Not To Keep Them In The Boat During Travel At Highway Speeds. Something About The Cover Would Come Off.
I bought a used 520c off ebay and have had it in the rain with no leakage yet.
I believe low voltage is the correct problem for the shutting off and black lines.
When not fishing, my unit has been in my garage, or in my truck so it doesn't get baked on the days I do not fish. I'm pretty sure that Lowrance will take care of any issues one way or another on the 520c regardless of it being a discontinued unit. I wish you luck!
I've had my 510c & 522c for about 3 years. Had a problem with antenna but THAT'S IT!!!! Some people get bad units,,, just check this board on HB's. Service has been excellent and timely. DMW1960, you'll be just find with your units. <*)}}}><
I GOT ONE OF THOSE BAGS FROM CABELAS THAT HOLDS BOTH UNITS, PLUS MY HAND HELD GPS UNIT. I TAKE THE MOUNTS AND THE UNITS OFF EACH TIME AT THE BOAT RAMP. AND THEN WHEN I GET HOME I BRING THEM IN AND MAKE SURE I OPEN THE BAG AND LET THEM DRY OUT IF NEEDED. I HOPE THIS HELPS KEEP THEM WORKING.
I just bought a boat with the 510 attached and moved it to the front and put my 997 in the back. I hope I don't have trouble with it. I don't have a warranty. :(
I had a problem with my 520c last summer. Minor problem, it quit beeping when I pushed the buttons although the menu was set to beep. I had a bad GPS module and talked to Linda about it. While she was getting the info to get me a replacement antenna, I mentioned the no beep problem, but told her I needed it for some tourneys and would contact her for repair after the season was over. She immediately dropped a loaner unit in the mail to me with a pre-paid mailer for my unit. They turned my unit around in about a week, but I didn't have to go without while they repaired it.
Linda takes care of people.

well boys you guys have alot better luck than I did with the Lowrance folks...I bought a brand new lms522c igps and it worked a total of 2 days....no rain on either day. Turn it on and the screen would lite up and then verticle lines across screen then about half the screen would go dark and then the unit would lock up and not turn off. You had to undo the power cable in the back to turn the thing off. I already had one lms522c on the console and I had traded a x510c and some cash for the new unit because I like the first lms522c so much. I go back to the dealer..."not our problem call Lowrance". So I did. I was on hold 56 min before I got to talk to any body but the guy I talked to first tried to help me. Sent me to there wed site for a free download of updated software and some rebooting directions. Well none of that worked so I called back. 1 hour 22 min I get to talk to a very nice lady and she gives me instructions on how to mail my unit back to them and a "incident" number. She told me it would be 4-6 weeks before I got my unit back. This was the second week in March. April the 28 or 29 can't remember for sure I got a box from Lowrance...I was ecstatic...for a while....come to find out they had sent me a 520 instead of a 522....the 520 has no internal gps and since the units look identical except for the numbers I spent a whole day trying to find out why "gps module not responding" was showing up on the screen. Well I had to call Lowrance again 47 min this time but at least I got to talk to the same lady and she sent me a shipping lable and a new 522c igps overnight but since this was on a Friday I got it the following Tuesday. Well I have it back on the boat and it seems to work ok...I haven't had it on the water yet but you better know it is going to have a baggie over it if it ever starts to rain. The folks were nice on the phone but I missed most of the crappie season this year. I hope it works as well as my first one did/does. If not Hummingbird or somebody else is going to have a new customer. I can't do this again and remain sane or in good humor.....brim
I've been doin' Lowrance products since the days of the Green Box portable flashers and have never had a problem until I got the 520. The fixed me up pronto and I don't expect any more issues with it.
Wish you all the best with your units.
