Thumbs down Garmin Vista HCX hand-held (Don't Buy)

Had the low end Garmin Etrex, and wanted the Vista with an electronic compass, so got it for Christmas. Got a bunch of other features I don't need. Read a bunch of good reviews before buying. Call up a waypoint now, and it locks up. Compass pointer is broken up into crumbs. Started googling about the "locking up" problem, and now I see the true history of this gadget. Large history of the same exact problem.

Got it from Amazon. Any suggestion on where to start asking for replacement/repair? From Amazon, or Garmin? I'm reading Garmin ain't real speedy with help.......dunno?

Now I see why they were on sale.......

    Default Well.......

I called Garmin, and expected a massive wait. Got right through a tech. Super nice fella. Told him my problem, and he told me how to do a master restart, and if that didn't fix it, send it in, and they'd fix it, or get me a new one. Did the reboot, downloaded my waypoints and tracks, and all seems good......for now. Very impressed with the Customer Service at Garmin this first time.
