    Question Humminbird Gps Receiver

I have a 797 and like most of what it does, but we all know about the lag time on the GPS with the 16 channel receiver. Has anybody had better luck with the 50 channel or high accuracy receivers....Thanks Lane:

The slow GPS has nothing to do with the reciever. It's a software problem. Slow screen refresh rate. I personally don't think you'll gain much if anything. Have you downloaded the newest software from HB? I did & it helped mine a little.

I have an 1197, with the new download, I still cannot go to
waypoint exactly with out looking like a drunken sailor.

I mounted a lowrance hd 5 combo on the bow . Now I just
get close with the humminbird and find my brush pile with
the trolling motor. I don't know if not running over the pile
with my big motor helps , but a quieter approach can't hurt.

    good luck

Lately I have been using the " compass screen " , the one
that rotates the world according to your direction. I have
been able to run right to a brushpile , change to sonar the last few
feet and hit the brushpile the first pass.
If I use the map screen and try to find a point anywhere
but due north of the boat , I am screwed.

    good luck

I have the 1197 and just added the HS-GRHA receiver. Haven't been out with it as of yet (lakes still frozen) but what I have learned is that you might just as well skip to the GRHA unit and be done with it.

Not to take anything away from this board, but ss mentioned in another thread, the Unoficial Humminbird Side Imaging board is a great resource for HB info.
