Lowrance memory storage question

I have an lms 337 and i know that i have alot of waypoints on it,but i know i dont have anywhere near 10,000 like it is supposed to hold.when i hit the WPT button twice to make a waypoint,it says that memory is full and i must delete existing waypoints to make anymore.but here is what has me confused.
in the menu options there is an option to check for free memory storage,and
it says that it has only used 25% of total memory.has anyone else ever had this problem or know how to fix it?thanks for any info

I believe thats only 1000 waypoints. If they are for different lakes, create different files for each lake and just load them as needed.
