    Default Humminbird 717

Well I went to Academy to buy a Eagle 320 ($139) when I saw a HB 717 on sale for $129.00 so I started looking it and comparing them to each other. The 717 has 2400 peak watts vs. 1500 on the 320. Dual 60 deg and 20 deg beam vs. single. And last the 717 is GPS ready and can be interlinked w/ other HB accessories/units. I went ahead and purchased the HB so the kids can give it to me for Christmas!

Has anybody else had any bad experiences with this unit and will it work for finding brushpiles and structure?

I have it linked with a 737 both on the back of the boat with one gps receiver we troll most of the time out of the back. I have a mount at the bow with a 535 just to read depth if we spider rig I move 717 to the bow an we can fish the spots we marked trolling. The remote receivers I have one at the back an one at the bow close to tranducers this way when you move one you do get off the length of the boat

I noticed that they sell cables that link with Garmin and Magellan handheld GPS units do they have one that will link with a Lowrance Ifinder? Maybe one of the humminbird guys can enlighten me on this!

I wanted to do this a few years ago at that time you had to get a cable from each company an then splice together this may have changed. I went with the 737 at that time same lake chip fits both. I had the H2O.

I pretty much figured that since they are both competitors with each other that a cable would be unavailable from either one. It's really no problem since I do have RAM mount for my Ifinder and it works great.

I would think so. It is GPS capable.

I bought my 717 in March of 2008 and I have had no problems at all other than my screen fogging up. Sent it back to Humminbird on Monday and it was back in my hands on Friday. Cant beat that turn around time!!!
