Default Any experience with this Bulldog trolling motor?

Anybody have any experience with this Bulldog trolling motor by Motorguide? It provides a foot controlled motor but has a transom mount mechanism designed to go in bow mounted applications. It would fit perfectly in the Bass Baby mini toon I posted in another thread. Just don't see much info about it anywhere other than what Cabelas and Bass Pro have. Stupid motorguide website doesn't even list it, but their customer support says it is a fully supported model. My only concerns are it is only 40 lbs. thrust (I wanted more but could live with it based on feedback here) and it is a 5 speed, not variable digital. I've never had a foot controlled so unsure how 5 speeds work with a foot control. But the bow/transom mount functionality seems to be what I want for this mini toon boat.

The 5 speeds are broken down via a dial on the left side of the foot control. You can see it in the picture, it's a rotary dial. That light grey switch on the upper right of the foot control is an on off switch. Just set the desired speed on the dial and when you touch that switch it goes. It sounds like a good choice for your application. If you're worried about getting used to a foot control, they're easy. A few other (toggle) switches on the foot control are a constant on switch and a high speed (turns the motor on to max speed). There is even an on/off switch, so if you accidentally depress the on switch, it won't work. Foot control is the way to go, your hands are always free to fish. The constant on switch is nice if you like to troll.

How big a toon? A 40lb. thrust will burn that little thing down the lake. I have a 4olb. on my 18ft. Express and it pushes it around well enough. I'm going to a 70 lb. but 40 is all you need. I have a motorguide as well but I'm switching to Minn Kota. Hard to find people that work on the guides.

If you have your choice of batteries, get the Voyager. They are great batteries.

Larger thrust numbers will have a longer shafts. Small shafts = small boats. Longer shafts = bigger boats. Longest shaft, well. You get the jest. This oughta tell every one something. I don't know what though? MOAO.

My old Motorguide still working after over a decade of abuse. And Voyagers are good batteries.

i can run on 1 battery on the 3 setting for hours have went 2 days with no charging on the battires and fishing for about 5 hours each time on a electric only lake .

I bought the above Bulldog motor (40 lb.) last night. Will post a report when I can get it out on the water.
