Default Lowrance 520, 525 and more

I am going to get the Lowrance GPS/Sonar combo. There are so many that look alike and have the same numbers it is becoming confusing to me. How do you really find out which one is for you? How do you tell where the differences really are? After comparing the Nav maps to the Hot spots this past weekend I like the HS much better.

I have the same dilemma. I used to know a few things about these things. I buy one and I don't like it, I bitch about it and then go buy another. I am easy in my new life...

I'm gettin' the 520c b/c it is MORE than Ill ever need. The dealer where I bought my new rig gave me a special price on that thang, all tricked out and could not resist having him put it on the front. I should take delivery on the 21-foot Sweetwater pontoon rig at the end of this week. I'm gettin' soft in me old and and need a place to stretch out when I'm seriously engaged in me crappie fishin' donchaknow. :D

The 520c cost me $500! I still have a mail-in rebate comin'. I really wanted a Lowrance 17M but they have been discontinued. My brother's spoiled me. When I did find one or two, they wanted upwards of 350 for the dang thang w/gps so I figured I'd just get me the latest technology and be done with it...for very few bucks more.

Now, I should really be able to keep an eye on things from now on. lol

    520 Single Frequency, External GPS
    522 Single Frequency, Internal GPS
    525 Dual Frequency, External GPS
    527 Dual Frequency, Internal GPS

Otherwise they are the same thing. 520 is IMO the best choice for inland lakes if you have the room to mount the puck. 522 if you don't have room to mount the puck or want to move it from boat to boat.

what degree of angle does the 200KHZ transducer project? I know Hummingbird is only 20 degrees, which equals to a 7' view of the bottom in 21' of water.
I have not been able to find any comparrison info on the Lowrance site.

Have been waiting on the HB798 unit, but $ wise the 520 & 522 lowrance units look good except for the questionable transducer performance.
