I vote for the console. Nice to cruise around and look at things. Take your time deciding on a location for the transducer. They are big and seem to catch a lot of water, making them finicky about air bubbles getting under them, causeing poor returns, and causing large Roostertail water sprays.

You may want to join the Yahoo group titled Sideimaging and look at the assortment of transuder mounts, and see what people have had good or bad luck with.

Wait and make sure you are getting a 2009 unit. It will have two card slots, and may include upgraded software and/or GPS reciever.

You will want it on your console. Make sure you get a swivel mount so that you can spin it around for viewing when you're fishing up front.

According to my 997 manaul, "Side Imaging is best performed at boat speeds between 2 and 6 mph". You can best stay in that window at your console with your main motor.

If you will email a picture of the transom of your boat I can suggest where you need to mount your transducer. My email address is [email protected].
