i also would like to know that answerer since i been doing some reading at old post

you might want to narrow it down to what your looking for in a finder, like price, gps or no gps etc then it might be better answerer

In that price range, the general consensus around here is going to be the Eagle 320 or 480 or the Humminbird 565 or 575.

Take a look at those and see what you think.

I fish with a Humminbird 717 and I am well pleased with it. Cost with Shipping was right at $200 from Hodges Marine Electronics - Marine FishFinders, GPS, VHF, Radars, and more!
Eagle has some nice ones also.

Even though I now have an SI hummingbird, before I wouldn't own anything but a Garmin. They have alot of units in your price range that are very user friendly.

I'm a Lowrance fan from way back while many of the guys around here run Hummingirds. But these days, it's kinda a do you drive a Ford or a Chevy deal and then there's me driving a Dodge. They are all good values. Just look for the features or built-in maps you like.

Personally, I use a Lowrance LCX 26c HD ($1300 and worth every penny) on the console and an Eagle (made by Lowrance) 320c on the front of my CC boat. The 320c is a really good color unit for $200. It looks pretty much the same as the Lowrance X67, but I'm sure they scaled back on the resolution or a feature or two to get the price $50 below the Lowrance unit.

If I were to buy a new fishfider and cost is a consideration I would get the Humminbird 565. The 565 has a high pixel count for greater resolution and comes with the dual beam plus transducer with both 20 deg and 60 deg cone angles. The only drawback I see with the 565 is you have to use the fish ID as opposed to useing arches to utilise the dual beam feature. I may be wrong about this. This graph at $200 is a great deal considering the specs.

Now if cost is not a consideration I`d buy the Vexilar Edge2 and I did.
The Edge though I`ve only used it a little bit so far, is the best graph I have ever used. Its a high quality graph with a split screen showing dual frequency displays useing two separate transducers. The hardware itself has higher quality materals than most other graphs. Although this unit may look a bit primative compared to the offerings by the bigger companys I believe the quality is better. Downside is its pricey at $600. Once I saw the unit out of box I knew why the cost is high.
