Default Ducer Install - anyone ever done this?

I recently bought a boat and removed the fishfinder that was on it. I'm currently waiting for my new one to come in, hopefully some time this week.

So here's what I'm thinking - I absolutely despise drilling holes in a transom. I believe everytime a transome is drilled, somehwere a fairy falls down dead. The ducer that was installed was installed with 4 very small screws. I've seen it done where a piece of HDPE (like a cutting board) is installed on the transome, then the ducer is mounted to that. The theory is that you only drill 4 holes for the HDPE and mount it permanently, then the ducer can be mounted to it and moved or replaced as many times as needed without having to drill more holes in the boat.

My trouble is finding a piece of HDPE on the cheap. A 3/4 x 12 x 24 (smallest piece I could find online) is something like $30 plus shipping. I'm way to cheap for that - just ask pstone if you don't believe me.

So, anybody got a source for HDPE at a more reasonable price - or an idea for a material to substitute? A cutting board would work, but it's tough to find one any thicker than 1/4 inch.

Or any comments on what I'm considering?

LOL, LOL, LOL. Kind of anti-climatic after I did all that typing. Umm, but I want it in black.

Thanks. It's a lot of work to make things this hard on myself.

FYI, Cabelas has the same product in 3 different sizes and different colors including black.
