Will a 50# trolling motor push a 14foot john boat fast enough to get good readings for the side imaging?
My answer would be yes.
If you are moving at all, the side imaging will work.
You could row your boat fast enough.
I had heard some say that you needed to go 3 or 4 mph, I don't have a clue how fast I would be going.
FYI, my max speed with a bow mounted foot controlled 12V MK50AT on a 15ft War Eagle welded boat and a 25 Johnson is 2.8mph fully loaded GPS. Just to give you an idea of your actual speed. Pretty sure you'd be OK with the SI at anything close to that from what I've heard, but I would bet you'll be going faster than me since my boat is pretty well loaded and I'm on the front deck. Your 50# and your body in the back of the boat will probably be clipping along at 3 to 3.5 or maybe a little more depending on the boat.

Wannabe...v2.0
A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
there would usually be two people in the boat, I just want to make sure that it will work before I sink the money into the 797c2, Thanks
The top speed should be around 3 mph with a fully charged battery. It will work, just keep the chart speed at 1 or 2 and run at about 1/2 power.

Speaking of this, I ran my big engine at idle and dropped the trolling motor in the water and used the trolling motor to steer the boat. Sure is easier to steer the boat this way. I used the copilot to control the TM. Freedom to move about. Great for grid trolling.
Learned this from Jeff White. He got it from them Yank Walleye fellers.
I sure like this SI stuff.

Just put my TM Transducer on last night. Went out tonight for a bit to test. Here's a screen capture. You can see the Speed and quality. I'm not sure if this is a car, but it appears to be. Spare tire on the right side, I believe. My chart speed was on the highest setting.

thanks, what does the difference in chart speed have to do with it? Is this the 797c2?
