When I swapped from motorguide to Minn kota in 03 the minn kota on the same batters would last 2 days of fishing. The motorguide would if I was lucky last almost a day.

On any speed but high, the maximizer saves quite a bit of power. Standard "speed-coil" motors that have the 5-position switch use the same amount of battery power on any speed setting. The maximizer uses less power than a speed-coil motor on all settings but high.

Does anyone know where to purchase an old Minnkota maximizer to change a 5 speed to variable? I don't think they have made them for quite sometime but I would like to find one...

    Thanks..

They show up on E-bay once in a while. If you are handy with a soldering iron, I have a copy of the schematic (some where) Tom drew up some time ago to make a control.
