Default FWI - Map Create 7

I was considering upgrading My Map Create 6.3 to the new 7.0. But I realized it came on a DVD which I can't read on my computer. So I e-mailed Lowrance and this is their reply.

    Thank you for your inquiry,

We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. MapCreate 6.3 was on 6 CD's. However, with all the new mapping features we added to the mapping software, we had to compress the files and load them onto a DVD. Otherwise, the cost would have been much higher as you would be looking at approximately 20 CD's."

Sure must be a lot of updates on that puppy.

IBNFSHN why don't you consider getting an external usb dvd player.....a cheap good one would be about $30 bucks. If you have windows xp it will recognize the hardware and automatically install the drivers and you are ready to go.

I just bought the Map Create 7 for my IFinder H2O GPS.....I was impressed by what I saw and was able to download onto a SD memory card.

Just one CD compared to six from the previous version.

Let me know if you would like to discuss the differences!!

I have a H2Oc with mapcreate 7 and love it. I was out this weekend in some strange waters back in the swamps and man was I glad I had that baby along. I don't think I would have gotten out of there on my own. It shows just about every lake, bayou, canal and ditch in my area. The nice thing about it is I put all of Louisiana on 1 card.

Try Amazon .com and search for external dvd ,you can find name brands like HP,LG for less than 50.00 if that helps.I ordered my Mapcreate 7 from there, 87.96 with the card reader .

You can directly replace your current CD rom with this DVD rom.

It should be a direct replacement. All your need to do is take the sides off your computer case. Then its 4 screws holding in the CD rom drive and a power and data plug. Not much to it at all. Windows should recognize it right off the bat. I have ordered from that company many times and never had any problems. Parts plus shipping should be about 25$

Go to Dell.com, configure a computer and buy it. If you don't have a DVD player, I'm guessing that's just the tip of the iceberg for your technical woes. Your computer may not even support the minimum requirements to run mapcreate.

You'll be glad you upgraded, once the pain is over. You should be able to get a nice computer with a 19" LCD monitor for less the 6 bills.
