    Default on-board charger ?

I have a 24v trolling motor(2-12 volt batteries) and my cranking battery(1-12volt battery). I would assume that I would need a 3 bank charger. But, someone told me that I didn't need one for my cranking battery. HELP!!! 2-bank or 3-bank?
    Thanks
P.S. is Minn Kota a good brand?

If you make a lot of short trips with your outboard your cranking motor never gets fully recharged. Be safe and go with the 3 bank.

Your cranking batt will take some charge from the engine. It is still nessesary to charge it from time to time though, just to make sure. As far as Minn-Kota I've never used thier batteries. If you don't mind spending the money I'd go for the 3 bank. It's just more convienant. I got rid of my 2 bank onboard charger after it didn't shut off properly and cooked 2 of my batteries.

I've used the Minn Kota MK315 for about two years and like it so far. I had another brand (Pro ? something) before, it ran hot to the touch and caused electrical interference (snowy TV picture) through the whole house. Factory people told me twice it was normal operation.

Got a MK210 for Christmas and gonna install it in my RV to maintain it's batteries.

Unless you run your big motor often and long enough to keep the cranking battery fully charged I would say go with the 3-bank model.

I've got the dual pro 3 bank charger and have been happy w/ it. Without a doubt go w/ a 3 bank.

promariner is the one I have

they make a model for bassproshop called XPS don't get that one. mine only lasted 8 months.

cool thing is I sent it back (2 year warrenty) they sent me the better model in return (prosport, about $60 price difference).

I think the new ones last better but don't know for sure only had this one a couple months

it's always best to have your batteries on the maintance charge especially durring the offseason. the batteries will last longer if they are constantly maintained. so yes go w/ the 3 bank
