how hard is it to shorten the shaft on a mg trolling motor? will the shaft slide up? by loosening the allen screw in the middle of the shaft?

They are not adjustable, but they can be shortened. You can raise the head so it sits up higher out of the mount. Talk to John at http://jonestrollingmotor.com/ if you want to get it shortened. He can do it for you or tell you how to do it. He's in Texarkana.
