what do GPS ready mean?

gopreach did you have a handheld hooked to your 727 if so what kind

My handheld is an older Magellan that was not compatible to the 727. I bought it 3 years before I bought my boat. I purchased it for an elk hunting trip out west. I decided against upgrading my handheld due to all the reasons I stated in my first post. Sorry I can't be of more help. I am sure there are a lot of guys out there who can help you however. I just like the idea of having everything I need permanently mounted to my boat.

Once again I want to thank all that responded to my question. I think I have a little better understanding of what the units do. With that said I think I'm planning to buy a combo unit and have it all in one package. I just wont buy the better mapping program. I'll just bring my Lorance H2o-c along for navigation purposes. I have Map-Create 7 on it and it show all the canals and ditches in the vast marshland that we fish in down here in south La. It's like navigating a spider web. Now to do some wishing and shopping. Y'all a great group with lots of knowledge, thanks for taking the time to share.
