    Question HB 787c2 Question

Anybody have one and if so how do you like it? Also does it have the same screen refresh issues as the 797. Looking at getting a 787 for the bow unit.

    Thanks

    Hey Wiskers,
It was good talking to you on the lake Sunday. Did you get your limit? I have been wanting to change my front depth finder but have not made up my mine yet on a system. I have been tinkering with a PC based system using CruzPro . Happy Thanksgivig on the Tug Boat.

Wiskers, I've got one, can't tell any difference in how it and my 797 work.

    Wiskers,

The refresh rate for the 787c2i is the same as all the other HB GPS systems...stinks. I talked with customer service a number of times and they decided that they would give me an external puck to try. Told them it wouldn't work but they sent it anyway. The puck does help in acquiring satellites faster but it doesn not help with the refresh rate. Overall, I like the unit but the refresh rate is a real headache.

I wish Garmin would update their graphics to something comparable with Lowarance and HB because their GPS features are by far the best. My Garmin 178c will stick you on it.

Garmin could take over the market if they would 1)design their units to accept hot spot maps and 2) come out with units that have a higher resolution and show more detail of what's underwater, 3) Work on the speed of how fast their fishfinder, not GPS, updates information. Bottom line Garmin has not tried to advance it's position in the market. HB has made strides to bring new technologies to the sport but have rushed some of the products to the line in order to cover costs. As of now we are stuck between, using old reliable, or moving to technologies with features that have not yet been perfected.

I wish someone in this "free market" society would come out with a unit that has all the best features of the "big three". That would be cool.

If my 787c2i went out today, it would be a tough decision on what to replace it with.

Sorry for the rant. Hope that helps.

I just bought a 798c si & used it the first time SundayThe GPS seemed to respond fine. (798 has 50 channel receiver) Before only had used a Garmen etrex with a friend so i am kind of new to SI & GPS. I did mount my GPS puck from the rail of my pontoon with a 4' extension to put it above the bimini top to give it a 360 degree view of the sky.

Seems like the 798 is going to be an awsome unit.

To be really honest, I hate it. I hate the fact that HB hasn't come up with a fix and I have to keep telling people about the failures of these units. If you take away the problem with the refresh rates, you have yourself a good unit but the refresh rate is what keeps us on course and on the fish. I would like to hear from someone that has it on their console and is running at speed with it. I bet that it would be fine for that type application but as of now it wouldn't be my choice for the front of my boat.

Oh well, I'm hoping that we don't get another bail out package because I hate to see us mortgaging you guys childrens future but if they give me some mulla I may try that new 798 or 997. I have heard that they are performing better with the 50 channel WAAS. Anyway time will tell.

    Crappiehound (and all)

Yep, it is a shame. They've got side imaging, it's great, and nobody
else has got it. The units do some amazing stuff. Parts of it, like the
menu pages I really like. Smart equipment, like how it knows exactly what
    accesories are
hooked up and which are not when I swap places from front to back
with my 797 and 787. I only have one map card for now, and figured out
it's easier to swap units than unscrew the little door and move the card.

But the response I see from them on even the most constructive criticism
    just baffles me.

As far as running with it, I use it from drivers seat, and it does work much
better at 25 mph or so. I have heard quite a bit of griping about it though
from some friends with faster boats, saying it can't update fast enough
to keep up. To be fair, they're running 60+ mph boats, and they're diehard
Lowrance people - but from what I've seen of update speed, I don't doubt
    what they say.

I like mine, a few minor problems but better than not having anything at all. HB is getting a bad rap, I bet they will have a answer to all the minor problems soon.
