    Default first 997 trip

i got on the lake sunday afternoon for the first time with my 997, pretty amazing in 8 to 10 ft water but couldn't tell much in shallow water, which screen(blue, brown ,grey, etc) do you guys use , what speed seems best 2mph or more like 6 mph, thanks for the ideas, i really like reading the treads on this site, only found it a couple of months ago. thanks in advance

I like the tan. One thing I've found that helps is running the scroll speed about the same as the MPH but play with it.
On the weeds I put a chart up on my site that might help explain this. Down lower on the page,

In shallower water, if you have weeds standing up, like that spiked hump, the sonar is blocked. The deeper you are over weeds the further over the tops you can scan.
    Hope this made sense.

I use blue and the speed is best to just play with it as your going along. Try it at say 7 (That is what I run mine on most of the time) Speed it up and slow it down running say 2 or 3 MPH. And find the best for what your doing.
