I use a cheap depth finder, on my Gheenoe and 12ft Strip boat, it a 27 acre mill pond that is about 4ft with stumps and it varies in depth about one foot and it does make a difference. I have found stumps and the original canal (which is onlt one foot deeper) that ran through it before the spill way.
