    Default Santa brought me......

A PiranhaMAX 220, just right for my 14'x36" JON. and 5 hp Briggs combo.Studying the transducer installation instructions, there seems to be only one right place to put it, midway between the last strake and the botoom edge, which is about 15" from center line on the transom. ( Well, two places, but I have anchor set up on the other side.) When my boat is trailered, the bunks don't reach all the way to the transom, so that isn't an issue.
I was thinking about getting a "bracket" to mount the transducer on (avoiding holes) and to find the "sweet" spot, but am sort of thinking thats sort of a waste . I don't think they are talking about 15-20 mph when they talk about "high speed".

Just go ahead and mount it???

Buy 1 of the Transducer mounting boards from Cabela's or BPS I bought the pro model. Drilled 2 holes above the water line bolted it on, then siliconed the board to the back of the boat. I trimmed the board for my unit about 3/4" from lower edge of boat to cut / stop drag. Very forgiveing material. No holes in transom below the water line. Cabelas part # IH 010102 for pro model ,larger of the two over $30 but peace of mind,

I think maybe your right, having the peace of mind of knowing no holes below water line. I checked out the ones at cabela's. The Pro (with the mounting holes above water line) is too wide for my application. I need the 4" size, turned verticle (unless I remove one of the stern handles - the right place lines up with the handle.) The horizontal 4'' turned verticle would leave me with a mounting hole right where the transducer needs to go. Hmmmmm.

I found another one 5.5" wide x 18" verticle, but it's still too wide to slide through handle without cutting it down.

I'm going shopping. I'll bet ya I can come up with something that will fit.
    Thanks again.

I know of a guy that cut both ends out of a can and siliconed it in the back of the boat inside and put in water and dropped his transducer in it, no holes. Don't know how well it works in a tin boat but it works in a glass one.

I had a piece of aluminum welded to the transom to mount my transducer on.

    Default Senior moment

First of all, the 4"x18" turned verticle WOULD work, after I cut 3" off -- I've only got a 15" transom!!!!!!! Duhhh.

Decided anyway to make my own mounting plate. Went to Wally world and bought a poly cutting board. It's a little thin, but a bit of epoxy will double it. Can bolt it on above the water line. Should work just fine.:D

    Thanks for all the responses.
