Thread: New Would like some electronics help??

Just got a new boat. So, new to this fishing gig.

I am trying to come up with some electronics for the boat. Obviously Live scope. After that total confusion!!!

I will be crappie and striper fishing.

I would like a way to save way points and navigate to them, along with the normal sonar? stuff.

Here is what I was thinking?

The 93s are very good units, but the guys with enough bucks claim the bigger screens are better for LS. I have two 93s on the bow, one for LS one for down image, a quirk of mine like the reassurance of the sonar to verify what I have seen LS. Had a bird 998 up there it quit missed it so replaced with a 93. Have not tried the SI on the Garmin, have a old HB 1197 at the console that is my go too navigation and SI unit, linked to a HB798 that is map only on the bow. I have never had much success with SI on the trolling motor, but that is my deficiency. A good TM with spot lock is great also, I am running a ULTREX, but hear good things about the Garmin, some folks really like the TM linked to the electronics I have personally never figured out how to make it work, likely my lack of knowledge, been thinking of hiring a guide to see how they use it. Which may be a good idea for you, to see equipment in action. Last, keep reading, do not be afraid to play with your settings, spent a full day never fished just messed with settings, you can always put them back. Different conditions require different settings, sun, water clarity etc. have my bow units mounted high so constantly adjusting, depth, how far front etc. tight lines and best of luck
one more thing, see lots of folks have battery issues running LS, many over look that the black box is a constant drain, the manual says to disconnect between use, wired mine to 20v dewalt tool batteries that I pull at the end of the day. Lots of info on here Ricky is a HB wizard in this forum.

FWIW .... I have the 93sv mounted on the bow (no tdx) ... Livescope use only. I have a Hook 7 mounted on the bow, which is basically used for maps/gps waypoints.
I opted for the "no tdx" deal because I wanted the whole 9" screen to be for LS & nothing else. Using split screens on my 5" & 7" screens, in the past, showed me that I wanted the whole screen to be showing only the one option. Plus I already had the Hook 7 mounted up there and didn't want to remove it. I can use it for maps/DI/2d or split screen options if needed. (both tdx's are mounted on trolling motor)

And yes to "griz's" point about amperage draw of the LS/93sv system (up to 4a/hr @ max settings) may require a separate battery. I have a 68 amp hour AGM battery just for the LS/93sv system.

Bought my 93sv (w/o tdx) & LS system from Brian@BBGmarine for $2200 back a couple years ago. Not sure what the going price on them is now, but I do know he gives discounts to Crappie.com members. I'd call or PM him after getting some quotes from other sources, just to see if he beats their prices.

Welcome to CDC from North Carolina. I run two Humminbird Helix 7 units on the console, and a Helix 10 on the bow, with a Minn Kota Ultrex 80# thrust, all networked together so that I can mark waypoints, change trolling motor courses, or set Spotlock from anywhere in the boat, which is really nice. I do not have LiveScope and have been resisting getting one for several years, because I don't think I'm (at all) interested in staring at any screen while I'm fishing (that's just me). You have definitely come to the right place to get answers and suggestions that I'm sure will do much to get you on the right track and/or help you cut through all of the confusion and the quite formidable learning curves.

I am in the process of making a list to run 8ga wire to the front. Do you recommend an on off switch for the live scope?

definitely the black box, as it will drain even when not in use.

You won't be able to connect the 2 93 units together with a network cable and also connect the livescope without a network hub. The larger Echomap units have 2 network ports so you can connect a livescope and network to other units without needing a hub.

In the Manual there is a section Connecting to a Garmin Device to share User Information. it mentions a data sharing cable. I looked it up by part number, It in not an Ethernet cable.

Am I not understanding something?

Look at the manual closely, the 93s do not have the data sharing while hooking up livescope, BUT can hook the two small wires to make them share. I did not bother as they are right against each other, and using my birds for maps.... the Garmin maps appear superior.... but poor people have poor wasy.

The setup you mentioned sounds pretty good. You can share waypoints and tx images including LS with the echomap plus units if you get a network hub. I have a 93, 73 and LS networked with a Netgear 5 port hub that I got off of Amazon for around $20. Garmin sells a waterproof version. I mounted my cheapo version under the console where it's out of the weather. I used standard network cables from Amazon also.
Garmin recommends a cutoff switch for the LS.
I run everything except the Terrova off of the starting battery.
That's what I know.
