If only connecting the US2 to 898 SI you need to set the "Connected Transducer" selection under the Sonar tab to "Dual Beam" to shut off the SI transmitters ...

Youre fine. It will recognize the US2 transducer and shut off the DI/SI, if not you should select it in the settings.

Selecting "Dual Beam" in the Connected Transducer selection under the Sonar tab shuts of the imaging transmitters, removes all imaging views from the unit - and allows the unit to operate safely as 2d/GPS unit only ...

Only ONIX and SOLIX auto-recognize a connected xducer with a dedicated transducer ID wire channel in the xducer cable ...

All HB core units must be physically "told" which xducer is connected ("Connected Transducer" selection) so that the unit will know which Sonar channels to transmit ...

+1 Don't forget to change it back to the US2 setting if you Restore Defaults. You will be losing the benefit of side imaging when on that selection.
