HDS Gen 1 and Gen 2 upgrade?
Ok so I know a Gen 1 or Gen 2 is way behind but these units are new to me. I dont remember the exact version these are running right now but I found on lowrance's website that there are newer updates than they have. The thing I don't know on is everything I can find about updating them says it will run an update wizard when you download it but I don't get an update wizard it just downloads a zipped file to the computer. The best I can find says to unzip the file to an SD card? Is this the correct process to get the update onto the SD card for the unit to upgrade? These are the newest units I have ever owned so I have never done any kind of update on one so any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if it matters but I am running a computer with windows 10. Thanks for any help!

Thank you Rickie! I dont know how I hadn't found that video yet seeing as how I spent hours searching that over the weekend. Thank you all for all the info you have gave me since I started doing my first and new setup of a boat! Hopefully ill have everything ready by the weekend and I can get it out and post some pictures of my setup and some fish!

Rickie, are there any disadvantages to upgrading the software on a HDS GEN 2? I thought I read something about losing depth or contour lines??

The good thing is there is also plenty of help in the forums to tackle those possible gremlins ...
The issue in the link below for gen3 may be the iota you have heard of ...
