Transducer question
Hey guys. New around here but love the site. I have almost settled on the Garmin Striker Plus 5cv as an upgrade for my old Eagle Cuda 300 on my 16/48 flatbottom.
A few years ago I was running on plane coming out of a slough duck hunting and my transducer hit a stump or log or something. It snapped the eye off of the transducer and shot it out behind the boat. My cable was ran over the back of the boat and down to the transducer. Not through a hole drilled in the back. Well, the cable held and here it came with no warning, arcing through the air at mach 2 and smashed into the deck about a foot to the right of my seat. It left a dent in the aluminum deck bigger than a golf ball. Had it been a foot to the left it may have killed me. I thought someones gun discharged.
Said all that to say this, I remounted the transducer on the inside of the hull, (couldn't hurt to try it was basically ruined anyway), and it worked fine. My home lake is very stumpy, and I would really hate the thought of tearing the thing off again on the new one. Do any of ya'll have any thoughts or experience with the Cv20-TM transducer being mounted inside shooting thru a single wall aluminum hull? Any info or thoughts would be appreciated. And also on the unit itself.
