I have the Gen1 Helix 12. Great FF, but it is BIG. Personally, would have gone with the 10 knowing how big it is. Have bought through BBG twice now. Great to do business with.
Every time I come up with a great idea, I get into trouble.

In the market for some new ones. Looking at the Helix 12 SI and a Sonar with 360 ducer and etherneting. I have been looking into an Onyx, but not sure what that gets me or whether its really worth the cost. Mainly crappie fishing, but occasionally will go to Biloxi and Venice for trout and red fish.
Does the Smart Strike really work on the Onxy, or can I just get the card for the Helix? Also was looking at the Garmin 7616 along with the Hummingbirds. But that sucker is pricey.
Been working with BBG Marine. They have been very helpful. Just wanted to get other opinions. I would like to stay with HB because of the iPilot issue. Although someone told me Lowrance now works with ipilot. not sure I believe that since I can't find it on the interwebs

First time I have ever heard of someone wanting a smaller screen.
ONIX has touch and much more customization ...
SmartStrike cards work with ONIX and HELIX (with newer software) ...
IPilot only works with Humminbird ...
Gen2 HELIX's are starting to ship ...
Gen1 HELIX's could see some very good deals with G2 releasing ...
There will be a new model 360 coming soon (probably release at iCast) that attaches directly to the new Ultrex but the specs for the new 360 haven't been released yet ...

I've got an 998 and a onix, touch.I really like the onix but can't really say that I need it,compared to the core series units.
I play alot, and like to tinker with my electronics.the onix has alot more stuff to tinker with,so I'm happy
Don't think I would pull the trigger on anything till you see the new stuff coming our this year
I would definitely check out the new Helix all in one transducer, dedicated DI with SI.
