Suggestions and help for fish/depth finder for Jon Boat

I am trying to finish out my 14' Jon boat that I'm building like I want it. Soon I will be purchasing a fish finder for it but I'm not sure on which one I should get. I'm not looking into spending a lot of money on one and I know you only get what you pay for. The one I have in mind is the Lowrance Hooks 3X DSI. I thought maybe this would be a good choice for giving me depth and showing structure. The way my boat is designed, I will be mounting the transducer on the front trolling motor. Reason is, the rear bench goes to the far back of the boat. Anyone that knows, can this transducer be mounted this way? And if anyone has any other recommendations on a unit in that price range (0-$200) I would greatly appreciate them. Also, any mounting suggestions or tips would also be very helpful. Thanks
