Default Upgrade...Replaced magnets in my Ulterra

Minn Kota sent me some upgraded magnet components to replace the original sensor magnets in the Ulterra.

I pulled my boat out of the water (boat was on boat lift) and drug it up hill to the house, on the trailer of course. My driveway is gravel, so I covered the work area with an old bed sheet in case something got dropped. I have learned my lessons over the years.

I then removed the side covers and placed the call to MK as instructed. After about a 45 minute wait, I talked to a tech. She was nice, but said she was on overtime. OK. I told her all I needed was for her to tell me the location of the magnets as they were not exposed to view with the side plates removed.

I replace the magnets with minimum trouble. I dropped the torque spring on one of the magnet holders. Thanks to the sheet, I easily recovered the spring. The torque spring looks like the spring used on a mouse trap, you have to "cock" it to get it in its slot.

It only took about 15 minutes to complete the install of the magnets. I returned the Pondtoon to its roost after I tested out the upgrade. All is well.

My Iphone quit working cause it was hot outside. This prevented me from taking pictures.

    Easy fix!

You would still be out on the gravel with a flashlight, a magnet, and a spring smelling dog if not for that sheet! Great idea.....

What are the new magnets supposed to fix? We're you having problems?
The only problem I've had was walking too far away to park the truck and the boat would wander

The original Ultra had magnets that were glued in position. The glue fails and the magnets fall out. The new magnet parts are molded.

I didn't have a failure. What I did was preventative CYA maintenance. You can call into MK and they can identify by serial number to verify if you need the magnet upgrade.
