Default Helix 9 SI/GPS transducer mounting

I am putting a Helix 9 SI on a Tracker 175. Does the transducer need to be mounted on the drop down step that is set back and under the transom or will on the transom be OK? On the transom it would be away from hitting anything in the water but I want it mounted in the best spot.

The xducer must be below the hull to get high speed depth readings ...

If high speed depth readings are not important - mounting the xducer higher on the transom for protection is a good idea ...

I HAVE A 175 BASS TRACKER ALSO, I MOUNTED IT ON THE LOWER STEP FOR FAST SPEED,IF YOU WANT TO MOUNT IT ON HIGHER STEP ,U CAN GET A SPLITTER CABLE AND BUY A 2D DUCER FOR FAST SPEED,MOUNTING IT WHERE IT WOULD BE SUITABLE

I guess I will mount it on the lower step and hope I don't hit something.
